Paradise City has a massive, sprawling, graveyard. Large obelisks engraved with runes litter the place, standing tall to ward off the evil. The lingering darkness in the hearts who have died stain the grass a dull grey, and evaporate into a choking black mist that covers the ground. A horror vlogger named Jeffery Kurge sits under one of the only trees in the area, talking to their audience. "So today, we are exploring the incredibly haunted Paradise Graveyard! This place is said to have buried nearly every single person who died on the continent since it was first founded, crazy stuff, right? It's so huge that I can't even see the Paradise Tower from where I'm at, and I'm barely halfway through!" Jeffery continues to ramble on about the sensationalized stories of Paradise Graveyard. He talks about the false reports of zombies, and the accounts of people who find themselves lost in the mist, unable to locate a tombstone for hours. As he walks through a crypt, his camera shows the silhouette of a person clutching onto the roof. He catches a glimpse of it in his reflection and looks up to see what it was, but the person has already leapt from the roof with a chloroform-soaked cloth in their hand. The livestream ends with Jeffery passed out on the floor, and a loud crash of glass as a boot shatters the camera. In a dark room bathed in only the light of computer screens, Jeffery sits tied to a chair. He slowly opens his eyes to see a shadowy figure standing ominously over a terminal, glued to the monitor. His struggling alerts the figure, who quickly turns around to grab his shoulders and scream. "Ah! Awake, awake, awake! You're awake! You, my brave volunteer, you will be a part of my perfect creation!" the madman cries. Jeffery struggles to say anything out of shock, but is interrupted anyway. The madman scoots Jeffery's chair in front of a monitor and shows him diagrams and blueprints of a strange device. "Do you see that, my dearest volunteer? A device, yes! Yes, yes, a device that latches! It changes! So eloquently designed, it's perfect! The only, only flaw, is that it doesn't share it's wonderfulness with others!" the madman giggles. Jeffery is terrified at the delusional kidnapper before him. "What the hell is wrong with you, freak?!" he yells. The madman dances around the terminals in a giddy euphoria, mumbling about how they are indeed a freak in such a high pitched voice that they cannot even speak it. They fumble around with the terminals and point out designs they're proud of. "Ooh! Ooh! Volunteer! I have so much to tell you! You see this device? It's so great! So proud!" the madman laughs. "What are you talking about? What the hell does that device do?" Jeffery worriedly asks. "Four computers! Very small, they contain the code! If one fails, the others repair it! Checksums, check balances, check it out!" the madman says as they press their face against Jeffery's. The device contained four small CPUs, each with the same code it runs. They would constantly check each other for value drift, ensuring the device would last until it was destoyed or becayed beyond repair. The madman rambled on more about their device, constantly touting how it would last forever. It was a small disk with two buttons to control it. If both were pressed down, the device would activate. It deploys a swarm of intelligent foam that conducts and generates electricity when exposed to any source of power, including the sun. The foam is both safe for the human body while also being acidic, eating away at flesh and bone and blocking nerves from sending pain signals. If the device was exposed to a human, it would replace their entire body with itself. However, it was programed to avoid the skull. The human wouldn't just be digested and turned into the foam, but they would be alive during the entire process, though painlessly. The device would make the foam regroup into different shapes exactly every 24 hours, moving the nerve endings and connections to suit the new form. The human could continue to walk, move, and feel. It wouldn't hurt, but relearning how to walk would be a great challenge that had to be done every day. Jeffery was horrified as the madman explained this all, laughing hysterically, invading his personal space, and shoving the device in his face. "And you, You! You'll be my volunteer!" the madman cackles. "What makes you think I'd ever want to willingly use this?!" Jeffery snaps at them. "But did I ever tell you how to activate it? Two buttons! But which end does it activate? It opens both ways!" the madman says as they shake the chair Jeffery is tied to. The madman begins to untie Jeffery, leaving the device next to the terminal's keyboard. Once he's freed, Jeffery grabs the device and points it at the madman. "Are you going to press it, volunteer? Or will you make me press it? Perhaps we will be intertwined in the process? Ooh, so exciting!" the madman giggles with glee. Jeffery is stunned with the weight of his choice. He can't run from the drugs still in his system, and the maniac seems intent on one of them being forced to have their body live on and be reconstructed until the sun explodes. Did they want immortality mixed with interest, or a torture that lasts forever? What could possibly be the reason for this device's existence? He takes a gamble and activates the device while pointed at the madman, and suddenly realizes the mistake he made. The device splits open and covers his hands. He screams and cries as his hands are covered and unable to move. The foam crawls up his arms, overtaking his body. He writhes in fear until the foam covers him completely, expelling his clothing and reconstructing his body. The madman squeals in delight as his device works perfectly, the cracking of the foam moving like a symphony to them. The unrefined chunk of foam sprouts new limbs and slowly compresses to form an outer shell. Jeffery now resembles a bug-like creature, his eyes the only thing left of him to see the outside. Even his eyelids are no longer his, and the device's tear ducts allow him to cry. He cries. He cries and cries and can only choke out two questions for the horrible maniac that imprisoned- no, replaced his body. "Why... why would you do this?! Why... would you make this..." Jeffery cried out while his tears began to flood his new mouth. "Why? Why!? It's obvious, volunteer! I thought it would be-" the madman screams before cutting himself off. The madman slowly and calmly walks to Jeffery as he tries his hardest to back up with an uncomfortable number of legs. They bend down to whisper into one of his cat-like earholes. They only say one word, and then begin to laugh.
